A violent altercation between a cohabiting couple, Ruth Ngozi Sunday, and her boyfriend resulted in a double stabbing, Blueprint has learnt.

It was gathered that the tragic incident unfolded in Eket, Akwa Ibom state, on May 6, 2025, at approximately.

A statement by the state Police Command, DSP Timfon John, in Uyo, Wednesday, said the police personnel found the couple in a pool of blood at Qua River Quarters following a distress call.

It said Ruth Ngozi Sunday was pronounced dead at the hospital, while her boyfriend remains in critical condition, receiving medical treatment.

The statement noted that preliminary investigations suggest a fatal fight involving a kitchen knife led to the stabbing, noting that the cause of the altercation is still unknown.

The statement reads: “At approximately 10:15 AM on the 6th of May, 2025, the Operative of the Command received information regarding a violent altercation at Qua River Quarters, Eket.

“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a female, later identified as Ruth Ngozi Sunday, and her cohabiting boyfriend lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple engaged in a fatal fight involving a kitchen knife, resulting in both individuals sustaining stab wounds. The cause of the altercation is currently unknown.

“Tragically, Ruth Sunday was found lifeless in pool of blood. Her boyfriend, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was found in a critical condition, gasping for life and was immediately rushed along with girlfriend for medical attention where she was confirmed dead at the hospital while the boyfriend admitted for medical treatment.

“The suspected murder weapon has been recovered by the police. Efforts are underway to locate the relatives of the boyfriend, while the family of the deceased has been contacted.

“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
