I ‘ll build stronger Delta, upscale wealth creation – Okowa

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has promised to build stronger Delta by consolidating, strengthening and upscaling wealth creation agenda and also to establish more 19 new technical colleges in the state.

  
 Okowa, beaming with smile, took the oath of office in the presence of political sturwards, civil servants, technocrats, business men, students and hosts of Deltans.

Chief Judge of the State, Justice Marshal Umokoro administered the oath of office on Okowa and his deputy, Mr. Kingsley Otuaru at Steven Keshi stadium, Asaba

The governor, who sworn to an oath at about 10:43am amidst tight security vowed to liberate the spirit of Enterprise in Deltans via skills acquisition germane to wealth creation and employment generation.

The governor listed his priorities in the next four years to include the establishment of 19 new technical colleges in the remaining Councils in the State.

 “This”, he said ” will bring the total number of technical colleges to 25, which is one per local government area”.

According to him, a fully functional vocational centre is to be established in each of the 25 Councils, even as the existing polytechnics will be reformed and reposition to become hubs for technical manpower development.

These done, he stressed, courses like enterpreneur would be introduced into the school curriculum and made mandatory for graduation.

” Let me also add that the enterpreneurship training programes of STEP YAGEP with be escalated and identified gaps corrected, to make them more robust and cost- efficient.

” The target is to at least double the number of graduate trainee and most importantly, strengthen the Directorate of Youth Monitoring and Mentoring to ensure that the Enterprise support packages are put to good use for lasting success”, the governor promised.
