A yet-to-be identified houseboy has reportedly used a pestle to kill his boss, Mr. Chima Anolue, a technologist working with the Department of Psychology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state.
A source close to the family said late Anolue died at one undisclosed hospital Friday night after failed attempts to revive him from injuries sustained from the attack at his residence in Awka, the Anambra state capital.
A trending video showed the suspect whose name was not provided telling his captors believed to be security officers that he killed his master in anger because he slapped him for not carrying out his domestic chores.
The suspect said, “When he came back, he told me to cook rice. And as I was cooking the rice, he asked me why I did not wash plates. I did not reply him. Then, he asked why I wasn’t responding to his question.
“In the process, he slapped me. But I told him I usually have ear problem, and that people don’t slap me. As I was saying that, he angrily asked if I was still talking while he was talking. And he slapped me again and brought out a cane and started flogging me all over.
“In the process, I got angry, and we started fighting. It was also in the process of that fight that I picked up the pestle in the kitchen and hit him on the head.”
Attempts made to authenticate the reports the security men that arrested and interrogated the suspect failed as both the director, Media and Publicity, Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), Chief Nweke Nweke, and the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, denied knowledge of the incident.
“We are not aware. That is why we have embarked on mapping out and recovering of firearms so that we can identify everyone or group bearing firearms as well as regulate their activities,” Nweke stated.
Ikenga, in a reaction to our WhatsApp message, said “There is no such report before me, please.”
