…House to probe alleged misappropriation of JTF funds

House of Representatives is to investigate complaint of alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the money meant for the Joint Task Force (JTF) fighting the insurgents in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal disclosed this when the Executive members of the Unity School Old Students Association paid him a courtesy visit yesterday.

According to Tambuwal, a situation the National Assembly appropriate money for such an operation and somebody diverted the money was unacceptable.
He said that the House had received a petition by some concerned stakeholders, adding that a motion in that regard would be moved as soon as the House reconvenes next week.

Tambuwal lamented that the National Assembly has a limitation as far as war against insurgency was concerned.
“We can only appropriate funds and pass resolutions, but we don’t spend the money. A situation where we appropriate and somebody somewhere is not using the money as appropriated is unacceptable,” he said.

He urged every Nigerians to come together and give government support, noting that government alone cannot fight the war.
Earlier, President of the Unity Schools Old Student Association, Alhaji Kabiru Koko, commended the Speaker for his show of concern for the students that were massacred by Boko Haram recently.
He commended the government for closing some of the schools and finding alternative safe places for the affected pupils to continue their studies.
