The Nigeria’s House of Representatives has condemned in strongest terms, the renewed attacks by the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) in Yobe State, expressing condolences to the families of fallen soldiers, vigilantes and affected civilians.
The House has also urged the Federal Government, through its Ministry of Defence and the Nigerian military high command to increase military presence, patrols and intelligence gathering operations in Gujba and surrounding LGA’s in the state.
It further called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Deelopment Commission (NEDC), as well as the Federal Ministry Humanitarian and Poverty Reduction to provide relief materials and support to the communities and affected victims.
This was sequel to a motion on Wednesday by Hon. Khadija Bukar Ibrahim, on the multiple attacks by ISWAP in Goniri, Buni Yadi and Gujba Local Government Areas of Yobe State.
While lamenting the recent escalation in attacks, she recalled that “on 18th April, 2025 ISWAP launched a deadly attack on Goniri village, where two soldiers and several local vigilante fighters lost their lives in line on duty,” adding that the attack also led to the displacement of numerous residents.
“During the attack ISWAP destroyed a key bridge, cutting off access between two communities (Mallam Dunari and Ngirbuwa) severely disrupting civilian movement, humanitarian response and military operations,” she stated, recalling also another on the 3rd May, 2025 in Buni Yadi.
“The apparent strategy of targeting both security personnel and infrastructure, aiming to destabilize communities and undermine government efforts to restore normalcy in North East,”she said.
