One herdsman was allegedly killed, as 134 cows and sheep were slaughter in Fanzo, an hinterland of Barikin Ladi local government area of Plateau state.
The Plateau state chapter chairman of Meyyity Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Muhammad Nura Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, saying the killings was reported to him Wednesday.
He said: “One of our members was killed, more than 134 cows and sheep were also killed, security agencies should do all that it takes to bring to book the perpetrators of the act.”
Our correspondent gathered from a leader of the herdsmen, Ahaji Dan Azumi, that 21 of the killed cows belong to him.
He said the attackers used guns and matchet on the herders and their cows while grazing, adding that one other herder was injured.
“The accident occurred when suddenly the gunmen stormed the area and started shooting sporadically. They killed one of the herders and injured another. The gunmen also rustled more than 50 of the cattle. Some of them died as some were slaughtered because they had already sustained gunshot wounds. It was an unprovoked attack.
“The sector four commander has called us for a meeting. He asked us not to take the law into our hands and assured us that they would investigate the matter. We are law-abiding citizens and we are calling on the security agents in the area to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice. Additionally, we are urging the security forces to recover our rustled cattle,” he said.
