[Happening now] 2024 Democracy Day protest: Niger Police on red alert, deploys personnel in Minna

The Police in Niger state have deployed personnel and assets to maintain law and order as well as secure critical infrastructure in Minna following the proposed June 12 “Hungry and Angry’ protest declared nationwide.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command SP Wasiu Abiodun stated this in a statement in Minna Wednesday morning.

He explained that the Police command in the state is prepared for June 12, 2024 activities.

According to him, “The Command has mobilised adequate personnel to be deployed strategically in public places, covering critical government assets and ensuring public orderliness”.

SP Abiodun said operation order has been drawn in that regard, adding that, “Officers have been assigned responsibilities to deploy operational assets and personnel, monitor and supervise the men accordingly.”

He said the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has urged residents of the state to be law abiding citizens and follow the path of dialogue and consultation in addressing their grievances, and avoid resorting to self help.

He warned parents and guardians to caution their wards against any act that could cause breach of public peace before, during or after June 12.

Blueprint reports that Minna has been calm and peaceful without signs of mass grouping as at the time of filing this report.
