Gyang felicitates with General Gowon @ 90

The former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (GCFR) has been described as a true symbol of national unity and integration by Arch. Pam Dung Gyang.  

In a statement issued in Abuja, Arch. Gyang said General Yakubu Gowon remains the father of Nigeria nationhood having fought for the unity, stability peaceful coexistence and prosperity of the country in the most critical period of our national life.

Arch. Gyang said: “General Gowon’s name will continue to remain in the annals of history and letters of life, for  his immense and invaluable contributions as he stood for an indivisible and indestructible Nigeria in her most critical period of her chequered history, with his establishment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), creation of 12 states, played critical role in the formation of ECOWAS, declared the doctrine of “No Victor, no Vanquished” after the Nigerian Civil War amongst other initiatives.

“General Gowon will always be remembering as a complete gentle man as well as a great apostle of peace. His various peace initiatives in Nigerian communities and beyond are great legacies, why history will remember him in positive light as he remains a true beacon of hope to younger generations of Nigerians and generations yet unborn.

“On his 90th birthday let all of us learn from some of the great virtues of General Gowon, amongst whose is humility, simplicity, fear of God, good neighbourliness and continuous pursuit of peace.

“Happy Birthday to a Man of peace as well as a great humanist, a gallant soldier,who has always been in the vanguard of united and indivisible Nigeria.

“On behalf of my family, friends and well-wishers, we wish him many good years ahead and best wishes in his onerous task of continuous service to humanity and Nation in general.”
