Idoma community leader in Gwagwalada area council of the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Chief Michael Ochigbo has called on Nigerians to keep faith with their leaders and give them maximum support to provide dividends of democracy.
He made the call at the cultural day celebration of the Idoma where
he presented an award to the secretary of the area council, Hajia
Amina Alimi, for exhibiting exemplary leadership.
The Och’Idoma of Gwagwalada urged Nigerians to count their blessings rather than the losses since the nation has been able to survive in spite of numerous challenges.
He stated that what the country needed was the collective efforts of all to address the problems facing the nation and not to apportion blame as that would not help in tackling the woes but compound the
challenges.
He added that young people had been used to perpetrate violence in recent times which caused serious havoc in some parts of the
country, pointing out that Nigeria can’t succeed without peace. He
called on the youths to have a rethink.
Ochigbo tasked Idoma people to continue to contribute their quota
towards promoting socio economic development in Gwagwalada and environs.
He tasked his subjects to live in peace with one another just as he
gave assurance that the community would continue to support policies and programmes of APC-led government in Gwagwalada area council.
The chairman, Idoma West Community Association, Mr Joseph Idoko said the idea behind the cultural day was to promote unity among members just as he reiterated commitment that the cultural fiesta would be sustained.
Responding, the award recipient, Hajia Alimi dedicated the award to
her husband, adding that the award would motivate her to keep on
assisting the less privileged members of the society, especially,
women folks.
Earlier, the special guest of honour and chairman of Gwagwalada area council, Adamu Mustapha, represented by his vice-chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Kassim, said the council’s secretary had written her name in gold in Gwagwalada and the FCT at large.
