Gunmen, weekend, abducted four men at Awka, Nimo and Oraukwu communities in Awka South, Njikoka and Idemili North local government areas of Anambra state.

Sources told Blueprint that two of such incidents happened besides Nnamdi Azikiwe University backgate, at Ifite, adding that the gunmen abducted SUV driver around 2pm and Lexus 350 salon driver around 3pm, abandoning their vehicles.

The source said unlike the first incident where the hoodlums shot at air possibly to scare away residents before picking their victim, they picked the second victim without challenge on their return match.

Another recounted how similar incidents occurred at night at Nimo and Oraukwu, noting that the victim at Nimo was trailed and abducted while his Lexus 350 SUV car was abandoned on the road.

The source said: “At Oraukwu, a petrol station owner while driving home with one of his petrol attendants was accosted by gunmen. They shot the petrol attendant (young man) dead and took his master to unknown destination.”

However, the Anambra State Police command through its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, only confirmed the first kidnap incident that occurred at Awka.

He said the Commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, had sent manhunt after the criminals.
