The Transparency Watch Initiative (TWI) has called on the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to look inwards by appointing an experienced career officer within the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services and restructure the directorate for efficiency.
The coordinator of TWI, Mr. Umar Abba, in a press statement in Abuja weekend said it observed discrepancies in the directorate.
The initiative said there is high handedness, distortion of administrative chart and use of non professionals to gain selfish interest.
Abba said the group had through its intelligence findings discovered that that the DRTS boss allegedly perfected plans to redeploy staffs perceived to be at loggerhead with his traffic administrative style.
While responding to the allegations, the head, Public Relations and Enlightenment Division, Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Mr. Kalu Emetu, described the allegations as funny.
He said such investigation shouldn’t be done by the group alone as the group needed to meet appropriate authorities to get clarification on those areas mentioned.
Kalu debunked all allegations made by the initiative, saying they should get their facts right before going to the public.
He added that DRTS posting is not what an individual does because they have a human resource department in FCTA and DRTS is a department under the Transport Secretariat of the FCTA and an individual cannot take such decisions alone.
He said in a every organised setting, posting is a routine and it must follow due process because the officers too have their rights.
“If your posting is not in line with the provisions of the public service rules, they will complain. Public service rules give room for them to express themselves, but they are not expected to take internal matters outside. They should follow the internal mechanism to resolve conflicting issues,” he said.
