The Taimako Community Development Initiative (TCDI), with support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Christian Blind Mission (CBM), has launched the Promoting Inclusive Education and Vocational Training Initiative (Pro-IEVTI) in seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Yobe and Borno states.
The project aims to enhance access to inclusive education and vocational training for vulnerable groups, particularly women and persons with disabilities, in north-eastern Nigeria, specifically in Yobe and Borno states.
The Executive Director of TCFI, Gambo Garba Mohammad, stated that the launched project focuses on three main objectives – knowledge transfer, community ownership, and gender equality.
He explained that the project aims to strengthen participants’ skills to effectively implement its components, empower community members to sustain the initiative beyond its 36-month timeline, and prioritise the needs of women and persons with disabilities.
“By integrating gender equality into the project, it seeks to address systemic barriers faced by women and foster their inclusion and empowerment,” Mr. Mohammad added.
Mr Michael Alaje , the Country Program Manager for CBM, stated that the event gathered stakeholders to clarify the project’s objectives, roles, and responsibilities for effective implementation.
He noted that the launched project, in collaboration with Taimako, aims to promote inclusive education by integrating children with and without disabilities in the same schools and classrooms.
“A recent assessment revealed gaps in this area, which the partnership intends to address through the program,” Michael said.
