Group insists on PWDs’ inclusion, urges Halimat’s ministerial appointment

A group, Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF), has written President Bola Tinubu, urging him to include People with Disability (PWDs) in his cabinet by appointing Hajiya Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

UNYF in a letter addressed to the president and copied to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, First Lady, NSA and SSS director general, said their demand became imperative due to her selfless life as a philanthropist that has impacted on the lives of many youth, women, less privileged and vulnerable.

The group said appointing Halimat into the cabinet will ensure inclusivity and address the yearnings of the vulnerable and the less privileged.

The letter, which was written following resolutions of the forum’s emergency meeting in Lagos, was endorsed by over 50 CSOs, and signed by the national president, Comrade Idowu Olufemi Shoroye.

It reads in part: “Our focus on Nigerian youth, the vulnerable and physically challenged informed our decision. Though, we are non partisan and wouldn’t have cared about who gets appointed, but the negative impact of the ministry operating without minister on the less privileged and Nigerian youth, makes the request imperative.”
