A civil society group under the aegis of Lawyers United Against Corruption (LUAC) has apologised to the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Arc. Sonny Echono, over earlier calls by the group for him to resign.
In a letter addressed to Architect Echono and made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the group noted that its earlier allegations that the TETFUND boss bought a brand new Toyota Coastal bus for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in order to bribe the student body to cover up misdeeds were made on “misguided information.”
“We therefore wish to apologise through this medium for any embarrassment, emotional trauma and mental distress our misguided position may have caused you. Rather than generate smoke where there’s no fire, LUAC has chosen to support and collaborate with TERFUND under your leadership in any way possible to ensure that it delivers on the core mandate to use funds along side project management for the rehabilitation, restoration and consolidation of tertiary education in Nigeria.
“The records we have gathered during the course of further investigation are glaring that you are an accomplished technocrat who has within a short period brought innovation, growth and transformation to TETFUND,” the letter signed by LUAC Provost, James Oladunjoye, read in parts.
TETFUND had released a media statement recently charging members of the public to be wary of mischievous groups making frivolous allegations.
