Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has warned vandals against perpetrating on public infrastructures just as he called on the citizens to remain vigilant on the social amenities.
He lamented that the power cables dragged from Abak Local Government Area in 2015 to Ika Local Government Area to supply the electricity in the area were stolen overnight.
Emmanuel spoke on Thursday during the funeral ceremony in honour of late Deaconess Eno Thomas Nwoko, mother of the former State Attorney General, Uwemedimo Nwoko SAN, at Abiankana-Nkana village, Ika LGA.
The governor vowed to complete and commission the ongoing construction of an electricity substation for constant power supply to Ika, Etim Ekpo, Oruk Anam, and surrounding local government areas.
Emmanuel further assured of the completion of the ongoing road projects in Ika LGA.
“I’m very aware as the governor that Ika has no light and it is not the fault of the government. When I became governor in 2015 we drew power straight from Abak to this place, but the cables and poles disappeared overnight.
“Now I’ve brought a substation to Etim Ekpo and they are constructing it day and night because I want to commission that substation before I leave office.
“I want to make sure before I leave office Ika, Etim Ekpo, part of Oruk Anam, and other areas that are affected are hooked on to that substation and be given light on a very regular basis”.
He called on the citizens to continue to support and cooperate with the government for the betterment and development of the state.
