Gombe PDP guber aspirant calls for equity, transparency

One of the aspirants contesting for the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe state, Gen Sylvester Andrew (rtd) , has sued for transparency, equity and fairness in the primary election slated for next week Thursday .
The retired General in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday also called on rival aspirants to demonstrate the virtues of patriotism and spirit of cooperative behaviour in deepening the democratic process.
This is as he tasked PDP executives to adhere strictly to democratic norms of internal democracy and choice of the people in the coming primary elections .
He emphasised that capacity, competence and character should not be sacrificed on the altar of political sentiment and mediocrity.
He said: “With the developmental indices of the state, I will consolidate on the positive strides of the outgoing Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and also initiate some programmes and policies that can add more value to move Gombe to the next level of development.
“Being confronted with the monster of insecurity in the country, It will be my topmost priority to ensure that Gombe will be more secured in terms of life and property to be able enthrone stronger and sustainable socio-economic and political development of the state.
“Running an all inclusive governance will be an uncompromised policy of my administration.
By so doing, all the segments, tribes and senatorial districts of the state shall have unhindered participation in the decision making process essential for the growth and development of the state.
“Under my administration, religion will rather unite us rather than divide us as a people with common history, destiny and political interests irrespective of the differences in our voluntary choice of faith and doctrines.
“This is because in my active years of military service as Major General, I did not serve this great country on the parochial lines of ethnicity or religious beliefs but for the maintenance of national unity and interest.”
