The Chairman of Action Group on Child spacing in Gombe state, Mallam Alhassan Yahya, said the state government has budgeted 48 Million naira in 2019 on child spacing programmes .
He disclosed this in an interview with Journalists in Gombe.
He said the money would be used for the purchase of child spacing materials, consumables and training of health workers who would oversee the distribution of the materials at the primary health care centres across the state.
Yahya said apart from the N48 million, they are still expecting some amount from the Save One Million lives, because they have been supporting the programme in the state.
He said, the Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) of Gombe was 18 per cent and based on strategic plan, they were expected to reach 22 per cent by the year 2022.
He said from all indication the state target is achievable going by the level of acceptability by individuals in the state.
He further called on the general public to subscribe to free-of-charge child spacing commodities, available in public hospitals.
According to him, several researches which were conducted revealed that child spacing could reduce the rate of maternal mortality by 40 per cent.
