The Gbagyi/Gbari Youth Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Abuja and its surrounding areas.
The association also expressed dissatisfaction with Senator Ireti Kingibe’s absence amidst the crisis and urged her to prioritise security concerns of her constituents.
The association led by the president, Comrade Nuhu Dodondawa Auta, Wednesday, said the pervasive insecurityin the FCT affects both rural and urban areas, prompting them to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider declaring a state of emergency in the territory.
The association said: “Recent incidents, such as the tragic murder of the royal father in Ketti, underscore the urgent need for action. We call on FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, to swiftly address and improve the security landscape in the region to prevent further harm to the people.
“Regrettably, Gbaukuchi near Aco Estate along the airport road witnessed the loss of two vibrant youth and one elderly person, while two women and one man were kidnapped with no successful rescue attempts to date.
“We appreciate Minister Nyesom Wike’s engagement with stakeholders, including traditional rulers and chairmen, but emphasize the need for comprehensive measures to restore safety,” the association said.
