As the ember months run to an end and 2015 beckons, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has concluded plans to reduce road accidents in Nigeria by 75 per cent in 2015, the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, has said.
Boboye said to achieve the target, the corps had inaugurated a new mantra, ‘Drive A Safe Life’, to encourage motorists to be cautious and courteous while on the road.

Addressing the Nigeria Army School of Infantry, Jaji, and the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), where some of the road marshals are currently undergoing training, yesterday in Kaduna, the Corps Marshal canvassed for more cooperation between road safety marshals and the military to improve operational effectiveness and enhance safety on Nigerian roads.
He said such synergy would lead to safer roads across the country, while expressing appreciation to the two institutions for providing training to road marshals since 1988, which had enhanced their capacity and exposed them to new challenges.
“The Nigerian Army has been supporting us in training our marshals and we want the relationship to continue so as to help strengthen the corps,” he said.

Boboye pledged at the NDA, that the corps would issue drivers licence to all cadets that qualified to receive them, while he challenged the participants to translate what they learnt into making the Nigerian roads safer to use.
The Commander, School of Infantry, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Abubakar, assured the FRSC of maximum support at all times. He said the new training manual has been made stricter and advised the participants to be very serious.
The NDA Commandant, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Idris, in his remarks, said that soldiers were being sensitised to always respect traffic rules and regulations and support the road marshals where necessary.
He assured that the academy would support the FRSC to meet its training needs.
