YARGOTE FOUNDATION, a non-governmental organisation (CSO) has launched an initiative that is geared towards improving the welfare, well-being and interests of the boy child in the society.
Speaking with journalists during the launch in Kabusa community, Federal Capital Territory, the founder, Hussaini Pai Anna, said it was aimed at ensuring that the boy child is not left behind in the scheme of affairs in the society.
The initiative is tagged: “Empower The Boy Child Project,” with the theme: ‘Building Resilient and Confident Young Me.’
She noted that it had been observed that the needed attention had not been given to issues of the boy child, and that there is a strong need to correct the imbalance .
She added that by the nature and perception of the boy child as being strong and resilient, the society tends to pay little or no attention to issues affecting male children.
She said: “World over attention has been given to the girl child while neglecting the boy child and this boy child eventually grow into a man that will eventually become a husband, a father and leader in the community and the society in general.
“We keep preparing the girl child for an unprepared boy child.
“If we look at the social media space and those that are not in the social media, the issues are the same.
“We have issues of broken relationships, broken marriages and broken trust. It just goes to say values don’t align.”
In his remarks, the traditional head of Kabusa Community, Chief Samuel Kpohu, who called on parents and the society to pay more attention to the boy child, appreciated the founder and expressed hope that the initiative will bring about behavioral changes in the youth.
“I really appreciate her for coming with kind of initiative to our community.
“Her programme is the best among all that have happened in this community.
“There would be behavioral changes because I believe the children lives would be affected,” she said.
Some of the parents, who appreciated the initiative noted that grooming the boy child brings equality with the girl child to improve society.
