Forum charges Yahaya Bello to name new Maigari of Lokoja

The Danko Development Forum, Thursday, appealed to the Kogi state governor,  Yahaya Bello to assist the indigenes of Lokoja by  pronouncing  the new Maigari of Lokoja, which has remained vacant in the last one year.

Addressing a press conference in Lokoja, the chairman of the forum, Bama Mundi, said the appeal became necessary in order to secure the replacement for the late Maigari, Dr Muhammad Kabir Maikafi III, who joined his ancestors a year ago.

“As required by the custom and tradition, as well as enabling laws of the state, a new Maigari of Lokoja ought to have been pronounced and appointed by the executive of Kogi state within three months of his demise, but unfortunately, to our greatest surprise, we are still anticipating,” he said.

He noted that Lokoja is one of the strategic ancient cities in Nigeria, which was once a capital of the country.

“Today, on behalf of the Danko Development Forum (DDF) and the indigenous people of Lokoja, we are appealing to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, to pronounce and appoint the new Maigari of Lokoja,” he stated.

He described the late Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Dr Mohammed Kabir Maikarfi II as a strong supporter of DDF initiatives and programmes who had supported and guided DDF in its developmental projects across the communities in Lokoja.
