Former leaders of Bajju devt association express worry over events in chiefdom

Former leaders of Bajju Development Association, BADA who were instrumental to the struggle that led to the realization of the Bajju Chiefdom have expressed worry over recent events bedeviling the Chiefdom.

The events, according to the former BADA leaders include the choice of the current Paramount ruler of the Bajju nation and the emergence of new Bajju Development Association BADA new executive members.

In a press statement signed by a former President and Secretary of the association, Mr Kure Mallam and Mr Ishaku Gado and made available to Salama news on Wednesday, the former leaders noted with concern that there was a rush in getting a new Paramount ruler of the Bajju people after the demise of Nuhu Bature, the late Agwam Kajju, as the mourning period was not over.

The statement also noted that for informed decision to have been made by kingmakers, opinions would have been sampled from different classes of people, including elders, the clergy, youth and all groups as to who would occupy the traditional stool of the Kajju people.

It added that the wide consultation would have removed any rancour and promoted the desired unity and peaceful coexistence when a new Agwam Kajju finally emerged.

It further said, the unusual developments notwithstanding, three names came up according to the highest score, and unfortunately the one that scored the least was picked as the new Agwam, because the Governor was misled.

The former leaders said the unpopular choice  contravened what former Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i promised Kajju people when he came on condolence visit- that whoever the Bajju people chose would be appointed to the throne.

Similarly, the statement said the recent election of BADA executive fell short of constitutional requirement and that consequently, the proposed Bajju day is not valid.

It urged Kaduna State government to fulfill its pledge and give the Bajju people the Agwam of their choice.
