Kebbi state government has taken delivery of 3,000 50kg bags of sorghum and millet donated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to facilitate food security.
The consignment was forwarded to the state through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
On delivery, Governor Nasir Idris ordered the distribution of the grains to people living with disability and widows, being the most vulnerable persons in the society.
The chairman, Kebbi state Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Anas Malami Gwandu, performed the exercise at the Produce Office, Birnin Kebbi, Tuesday.
He stated that 128 bags have been allocated to 18 local government areas, while Bagudo and Danko-Wasagu received 150 bags apiece.
Birnin Kebbi, being the state capital, took possession of 300 bags, Orphanage 50 while the School for Special Needs was allocated 46 bags.
“We set up distribution committees in each local government area to ensure that each beneficiary receives one bag without hitch.
“Our people are grateful to Governor Nasir Idris who has consistently empowered persons with disabilities with material and financial support.
“In addition, the governor has given employment to 30 disabled persons as teachers during the recent recruitment of 2000 new teachers, I took the employment letters to them,” Anas said.
The director, Social Development and Rehabilitation of the Commission, AbdulNaseer Argungu, gave assurance that the distribution process would be carried out with transparency and justice.
