Prof Dakum, who is also the Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, described the natural disaster as a humanitarian crises.

In a signed statement Friday, by his media aide, Shabul Mazadu, Prof. Dakum, said the disaster that claimed lives and displaced over 414000 people from their homes, was sympathetic.

“I express my sympathy to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and the entire citizens of the State over the unfortunate flood disaster that claimed lives and displaced over 414000 people from their homes in some parts of the state, which has added to the numerous humanitarian crises Borno State has been wrestling with,” Dakum said.

He commended the governor for exhibiting serious determination and commitment in de-escalating the gravity of the challenges and surmounting courage to overcome them.

Prof Dakum called on the National Emergency Management Agency to as a matter of necessity equip itself in all the states with enough flood disaster life serving equipment now that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NIMET) has issued stern warning of intense flooding in different parts of the nation.

He said had there been enough modern life saving equipment the casualty rate in the flood would have been less, while urging the Federal Government to equip the country with wild fire, earthquake and other natural disaster fighting and lives’ saving equipment for proactive measures.
