Flooding: Kebbi acquires N13m land to resettle Argungu Kamfani IDPs

Governor Nasir Idris Thursday paid compensation to owners of farmlands at Kamfani village to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), forced out of their abodes by flooding last year.

The entire town came under water during the last rainy season, sacking the whole community from their homes.

Interim relief items, including food stuffs and building materials, were provided by the state government prelude to resettlement.

During a stopover on his way to Birnin Kebbi from Sokoto, Governor Nasir Idris, ordered the relevant authorities to effect payment of compensation for farmlands acquired at higher ground, for allocation to the victims to build new homes.

All the owners of acquired land were fabulously compensated doubling actual market price during the exercise held at the Argungu local government secretariat.

The permanent secretary, Ministry of Lands, TPL Abubakar Muhammad, said 14 hectares of land was acquired for allocation to households to begin the construction of new homes.

“The government has quantified each one hectare of land at N1 million, our magnanimous governor has directed us to pay the landowners, totaling 13 of them handsomely, which was done in cash.

“182 people were displaced by the flooding, but they can now return to normal life because land has been acquired by government which is allocated free to them to construct new houses on higher ground,” he said.

The executive director, Kebbi State Emergency Relief Agency (SEMA), TPL Abubakar Abdullahi, said since the time of the flooding last year, interim relief items comprising of foodstuffs and building materials, were provided to the victims on the approval of Governor Idris.
