Flood: Sabon Gari residents seek FG’s intervention

Residents of Sabon Gari community in Bwari area council of the Federal

Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja have called on the federal government

to fix the only road linking  their area with the city-centre.

The road has been washed away by flood, exposing the residents to challenges of movement to and from the community.

One of the residents, Mr. Sulaiman Sabo, while speaking with Blueprint, Monday, called on the federal government to urgently repair the road, saying “this is the only route to the main town and the city centre.”

Sabo, a civil servant, said “We are facing challenges daily moving in and out of our community due to the deplorable condition of the only road linking Sabon Gari with Bwari. The situation is worsened by the raining season, which has led to flood in the area. We are calling on the federal government to come to our aid.”

Another resident, who deals in pottery, Miss. Mariam Abdullahi called on the federal government to come to the aid of the community, saying the only source of her income (pottery) has been affected by the ravaging flood.

She said: “My only source of income has been wiped out by flood. Many of the chicken in my pottery farm have died due to flood.  I want the federal government to come to my aid.”

Another resident of the area, Mr Abraham Sunday raised concerns on the buildings in the community saying damaged his house and those of his neighbour were as well destroyed by the flood.

“As I speak with you, I have relocated my family to another house in Abaji. I want the area council, FCT administration and federal government to assist us. We are pleading with all authorities saddled with the responsibility of alleviating our challenges to step up efforts in helping us,” he lamented.
