First female UBTH CMD pledges improved healthcare delivery 

The first female Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, Tuesday officially assumed duty. 

‎She arrived at the hospital amid ecstasy, cultural dances, jubilation by members of staff and students of the tertiary health institution.

‎Ize-Iyamu who took over from Prof. Darlington Obaseki after the latter’s  eight-year tenure ended, pledged improved healthcare delivery, adding that she would  anchor her leadership on compassion and innovation. 

‎The professor of dentistry and orthodontics stated that her leadership would prioritise patient’s dignity, staff welfare, infrastructure renewal, digitisation of records, and partnerships with government, academia, and the private sector.

‎Prof.  Ize-Iyamu noted: “As the first female to serve as CMD of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, I stand not as an exception, but as an example of what is possible when merit is sought and when opportunity meets with preparedness.

‎“My vision is clear that UBTH CARES. C stands for Care, A for Advancement, R for Revitalisation, E for Employee welfare, and S for Sustainability.”
