Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Danbazau, yesterday urged all security agencies to be on the alert in the fight against illegal cross borders activities.
The minster who disclosed this during an inspection and familiarisation tour of the Illela border post at the boundary point between Nigeria and Niger Republic, said modern security equipment would be deployed to all the border towns to assist security personnel to checkmate influx of people into the country.
Danbazau noted that illegal cross borders activities contributed to the criminal menace currently affecting the country, adding: “Nigeria needs absolute security especially in this period of terrorism”.
The minister, who also identified human, arms and dangerous drug trafficking as responsible for most crimes, said it was time for everyone to be up and doing to overcome the ugly trend.
“It is in our best interest to check people who are not suppose to cross into the country for negative ulterior motive.
“We expect you security agencies to live above board with high integrity and shun corrupt practices by living within your legitimate means”, he warned.
Earlier, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Martin Kure, explained that Illela border remained one of the biggest and most vibrant in trade activities, which also reflects the cultural and festivity affinity between Nigeria and the neighbouring Niger Republic.
