The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Yakubu Kwanta, paid a surprise visit to the camp of Nasarawa Amazons on Monday, as the team prepares to depart for Lagos ahead of the 2025 President Federation Cup final.
Hon. Kwanta said the visit was to boost the players’ morale and demonstrate the government’s full backing as they set out to reclaim national glory. He recalled that in 2019, when the Amazons won the Federation Cup in Kaduna, he was the one overseeing the ministry and stood by the team throughout that victorious campaign.
“This team has made Nasarawa proud before, and I have no doubt they will do it again. His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, is solidly behind you and will be present in Lagos to support you all the way,” Kwanta stated.
Head Coach Christopher Danjuma appreciated the visit and pledged that the team would give everything on the pitch to bring the trophy back home once more.
Team captain, Josephine Mathias, who spoke on behalf of the players, expressed gratitude to the commissioner and appealed for continued support from the ministry. She noted that the team is in high spirits and determined to deliver the trophy as a gift to the governor and the people of Nasarawa State.
The commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, alongside other senior officials.
Nasarawa Amazons will face arch-rivals Rivers Angels in the Federation Cup final scheduled for June 28, 2025, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
