FCT minister tasks town planners on professionalism

By Ayoni M. Agbabiaka

FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has called on all professionals operating in the Territory to always adhere to their sworn professional ethics in the discharge of their duties.
The minister, who made the call while receiving executive members of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners in his office, urged them to ensure that professionals in Urban and Regional Planning as well as in the construction industry dwelling in Abuja, adhere to the best practices of the profession.

Malam Bello stated that it is quite unexplainable that with the large number of professionals practicing in FCT, many things have not been done right in the development of the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister stressed that “Abuja is the only city in Nigeria that was created by law,” and it is an irony that many unprofessional practices are being carried out by professionals in the Territory, which is unacceptable.

He reiterated that the present Administration would ensure that all Nigerians adhere to the rule of law in all its transactions and therefore urged the professionals to always take this as a cardinal principle in their practices.
The minister assured that the “FCT Administration would continue to partner with all professional bodies to ensure that the rules of engagement of professionals are strengthened in the Federal Capital Territory in order to make Abuja better than we met it.”
Speaking earlier, Acting National President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Mr. Luka Bulus Achi, congratulated the Minister on his appointment noting that it was in recognition of his unprecedented performance in his erstwhile position.
