Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Canonic Associates Arc. Shehu Turkur, Wednesday, commended the Nasarawa state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on their proposed plan to build chalets at the Press Centre Lafia.

He gave the commendation in Lafia during a visit to the site of the project with the view of supporting the union.

Tukur said he would support the union financially and ensure completion of the project.

He said the idea to build chalets at the press centre was in line with the practice in most press centres in the country to address accommodation deficits.

He said this will also help in providing accommodation to journalists who are either passing or come to the state for a function thereby enhancing the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the union,” he added.

Speaking, NUJ chairman Salihu Mohammed Alkali, expressed gratitude for the visit and support.

He said the council had set up a seven man press week/fund raising committee to organise a press week and raise fund for the building of a chalets.

He said the idea of the chalets was aimed at creating activities to make the press centre viable like others across the country.
