Former Zimbabwe goalkeeper George Chigova has died aged 32 at his residence in South Africa.
According to a statement by his Pretoria football club, SuperSport United, Chigova drew his final breath at his home on Wednesday.
The Zimbabwean goalkeeper had collapsed during training with his club in July and was placed on leave after he was diagnosed with a health condition.
The highlights of Chigova’s international career include taking Zimbabwe to the semi-finals of the 2014 African Nations
In 2019, Chigova also played in the tournament of the Africa Cup of Nations.
His career at a senior club began in 2010 with Harare Gunners, with some time at Zimbabwe’s most popular team, Dynamos.
The goalkeeper left for SuperSport United after his time at the club of his country home.
Chigova later played with Polokwane City for five seasons in the South African first and second tiers, before reuniting with SuperSport in 2020.
His death is barely five days after the passing of former Zimbabwe coach and midfielder Rahman Gumbo.
Gumbo died at the age of 59 after he suffered a heart attack in neighbouring Botswana.
