Equity market opens week bullish, gains N329bn

Local equity market on Monday  opened the week on a positive note, appreciating by N329 billion as bulls dominated market activities.

Market capitalization of listed equities appreciated by 0.55 per cent to N60.570 trillion from N60.241 trillion reported the previous day. 

The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 544.57 basis points to 99922.63 points from 99378.06 points recorded on Friday.

The gains recorded in the shares of Aradel Plc, FBNHoldings, Zenith Bank, Oando, United Capital Wapco , Vitafoam Nigeria Plc and others outweigh loss in shares of UPL, HMCall International Breweries, ABC Transport Sovereign Trust Insurance.

As a result year to date return went up to 33.73 per cent as 35 companies closed in green while 25 firms close in red.

A review of investment showed that Royal Express and Living Trust led gainers table with 10 per cent each, to close at N0.66 and N3.30 per share, International Breweries added 9.90 per cent to close at N4.55 per unit, Guinea Insurance gained 9.84 per cent to close at N0.67 per share, Caverton Business Solutions added 9.60 per cent to close at N2.17 per unit.

On the contrary, UPL topped losers chart, dropping by 9.81 per cent to N3.77 per unit, HMCall trailed with a loss of 9.62 per cent to close at N4.70 per share, International General Insurance down by 9.52 per cent to close at N1.33 per unit, ABC Transport fell by 8.70 per cent to close at N1.05 per unit, Sovereign Trust Insurance dipped by 8.24 per cent to close at N0.78 per share .

Volume of trades increased by 196.655 million representing 26.54 points as investors traded 740.89 million shares valued at N16.88 billion in 10430 deals against 549.81 4.235 million shares worth N10.631 billion in 8464 deals.

Transactions in the shares of Sterling Bank led market activities with 196.969 million shares valued at N955.519 million, Wema Bank trailed with a loss of 150.444 million shares cost N1.325 billion, Etranzact traded 70.096 million shares worth N47.164 million, Tantalizer exchanged 57.299 million shares valued at N101.218 million while AccessCorp traded 20.479 million shares valued at N491.931 million.
