The nation’s equity market on Tuesday crosses seventy thousand marks, appreciating by N1.086 trillion as gains in the medium and capitalised stocks boosted market activities.
Market capitalisation of listed equities appreciated by 1.57 per cent to N70.377 trillion from N69.291 trillion reported the previous day.
The NGX All Share Index also increased by 1721.30 basis points to 111606.22 points from 109884.92 traded on Monday.
The market was driven by gains in the shares of Airtel Africa Plc, Aradel Plc, Nahco Plc and 32 other companies lifted trading for the day.
As a result year to date return rose to 8.43 per cent as Market breadth was strongly positive, with 35 stocks recording gains compared to only 20 losers, indicating widespread buying interest in stock market.
An analysis of the trading during the day showed that Airtel Africa led gainers table with 10 per cent to close at N2372.50 per unit, Omatek followed with a gain of 9.23 per cent to close at N3.40 per unit, Cornerstone Insurance added 8.63 per cent to close at N3.40 per share, Nahco Plc added 8.39 per cent to close at N80.75 per unit, UPL gained 6.47 per cent to close at N5.10 per share.
Conversely, Mcnichols topped losers chart, dropping by 9.80 per cent to N2.21 per unit, CWG trailed with 9.50 per cent to close at N9.05 per unit, Champion Breweries fell by 7.38 per cent to close at N6.90 per unit, Redstarex fell by 4.62 per cent to close at N6.40 per share, Jaiz Bank dipped by 4.46 per cent to close at N3.21 per unit.
Volume of trades declined by 4.938 million , representing 1.19 per cent as investors traded 409.571 million shares valued at N9.869 billion in 19779 deals against 414.509 million shares costing N11.094 billion in 19779 deals.
Transactions in the Custodian Insurance led market activities with 37.589 million shares valued at N752.119 million, Fidelity Bank followed with account of 36.994 million shares cost N676.318 million, Veritas Kapital traded 33.005 million shares cost N34.106 million, Zenith Bank exchanged 27.431 million shares cost N1.328 billion while Access Holdings company sold a total of 23.692 million shares worth N519.555 million.
