Enugu: NPC, USAID launch 2023/2024 demographic, health survey

The National Population Commission (NPC), in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other international agencies, Thursday, launched the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) in Enugu state.

Briefing the press at the occasion, the State Director of NPC, Mrs. Odinakachukwu Okolie, said the survey has been instrumental to providing invaluable insight that informs evidence-based policies, enhance public health interventions and contribute to the broader development agenda for our nation.

Okolie disclosed that the objective of 2023-24 NDHS project was to provide up to date information on fertility levels, family planning, nutrition status of mother and young children, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, adult and child mortality, domestic violence and others. 

While calling for collaboration and support of stakeholders, pointed out that the information on the demographic and health status of the population would be useful in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of intervention programmes in the health and social sector.

“This moment symbolizes the culmination of strategic planning, collaborative efforts and unwavering commitment from all participating stakeholders.

“As we proceed on this collective journey, I would like to express gratitude to our esteemed partners and collaborators for their support to the survey that is ongoing in the selected clusters of our communities in Enugu State.

“Women aged 15-49 years, children 5-59 months and men 15-59 years will be interviewed in randomly selected households by team of interviews,” she said.
