Enugu group denies involvement in politics

A group under the aegis of Odo-ozo Peoples Assembly in Enugu state has denied any involvement in politics, but said it is a socio-cultural organisation meant to protect the interest and development of Odo-ozo residents.

The OPA is located in Udi North local government area of the state.
Its members said this yesterday, while refuting a publication in some national dailies that there was a meeting of the group, which was called by its executive officials and attended by mostly political appointees.

They noted that the said meeting was held in Old Government Lodge which had never been its meeting venue.
According to them, there were purported names in the said publication which was duplicated in many columns, saying, “that confirms the fraudulent nature of the publication.”
A communique issued to our correspondent noted that, “the executive members of the Odo-ozo Peoples Assembly, who were duly elected on February 26, 2014 never called for any meeting.”

The communique was signed by the group’s Chairman, Mr. Augustine Odeenigbo; the Secretary, Mr. Jude Offu and the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Adonys Igwe.
It read in parts, “That the approval of the election was sequel to the dissolution of Odo-ozo Peoples Assembly executive led by Dr. Job Udeogu on 18th June, 2013 which was deferred because Udi General Assembly election was held on August 2013.

“Sequel to the aforementioned reasons, the present executives was judiciously elected in line with the constitutions of Odo-ozo Peoples Assembly.”
It added, “That we the elected executives of Odo-ozo Peoples Assembly want to use this opportunity to advise and educate our sons and daughters who are political appointees not to allow themselves to be misled by the former chairman of the assembly, Dr. Job Udeogu, whom his tenure has expirted.”
