#EndSARS: Panel reorders stoppage of pension to retired policemen

The Plateau State Panel of Inquiry into Police Brutality and related Extra Judicial Killings, has ordered for the suspension of pension to all retired police officers that failed to appear before it.

Chairman of the panel, Justice Philomena Lot, made the order, Tuesday, while adjourning on the consolidated memorandum, filed by the Jasawa Community Development Association (JCDA), alleging that some members of its community were brutalised and killed by policemen.

The memorandum signed by the JCDA president, Shehu Ibrahim Massallah, is led by Barrister Lawal Ishaq.

Justice Lot said the memorandum must be served on all the policemen mentioned.

“Since the OC legal department of the police have been receiving services on all the mentioned police officers, the police must ensure that the mentioned policemen appear before us,” she said.

Justice Lot, said she had once directed that any police officer that refuses to appear should have his pension pay stopped.

“The other time, I have said those that have retired but have failed to appear before the tribunal, his pension should be withheld by the police,” she reordered.

Justice Lot said the panel has 60 memorandum to consider within the 6 months period allotted to it.

The JCDA memorandum has dozens of complainants and witnesses, and it has been adjourned to 25th January, 2021.
