End maternal, newborn deaths, WHO tells govts, stakeholders

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called on governments, donors and communities to increase efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths and prioritise the longer-term health and well-being of women and children.

The WHO Country Representative, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, stated this while speaking to journalists Monday during the Walk- the -Talk Awareness Walk in commemoration of the World Health Day.

The theme of this year’s World Health Day is “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures”.

He stated that it marked the beginning of brighter future and to remind the world of the need to address the unacceptable high maternal neonatal mortality, but also an opportunity to raise awareness on the need to remain physically active to maintain good health.
