Ekiti residents panic as gunmen kill PoS operator, rice seller

The people of Ekiti state Thursday called on the state government to save them from the harassment of gunmen killing innocent people.

 The call came as gunmen again struck and killed two of its residents in different locations within Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.

 Residents of the Teaching Hospital Area of Ado-Ekiti, were thrown into mourning Thursday morning as unknown gunmen shot dead a Point of Sale (POS) agent popularly called Alfa Taofeek.

It was gathered that the gunmen who came on a motorbike shot and killed Alfa Taofeek and made away with his money and other valuables.

Another source who craved anonymity said the Alfa was just opening his shop after dropping his kids in school when the men of the underworld struck.

The corpse of the deceased had been reportedly taken to the morgue by the police.

Sympathisers who besieged the area described the deceased as humble and easy going, calling on the police to halt such killings.

Recall that a similar occurrence took place at the Okesa area of the state capital, Tuesday, when an Okada ticket operator was gunned down by assailants who also came on a motorbike. 

Few hours after this ugly incident, men of the underworld again gunned down a yet to be identified rice hawker at another location, the popular Bisi market in Ado-Ekiti metropolis. 

It was also gathered that the men, who were on a motorbike, shot and killed the wheel barrow pusher at the market in the heart of the state capital.

The development forced traders and passersby to flee for safety.

Some of the traders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they would not return to the market for now.

While reacting to the dastardly killings, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ekiti state Police Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, said: “Immediately we got the information, we mobilised our men to the scene.”
