Ekiti elders task FG on insecurity, economic hardship

Worried by the prevailing level of insecurity and economic hardship in the country, the Ekiti Council of Elders (ECE) has urged the federal government to forthwith take decisive action that would promptly put a stop to the ugly development.

The elders condemned the recent mass murder and destruction in parts of Plateau state, describing the incident as a very sore case in point.

The council, in a release sent to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, Sunday, signed by the chairman, Prof. Joseph Oluwasanmi, PRO, Bayo Orire and general secretary, Elder Niyi Ajibulu decried the continued insecurity, murder, arson, kidnapping and other acts of plunder all over the country.

While lamenting the economic hardship plaguing the majority of Nigerians, the council said:”We are equally not satisfied with the ongoing efforts to uncover and prosecute the criminal cabals seemingly sworn to the destruction of Nigeria through stealing and other acts of pillaging its wealth by executive fist.”

The elders, however, acknowledged the palliative measures as well as the structural reforms being undertaken by the federal and state governments to stabilise and re-vitalise the economy in order to enhance the well-being of the people.

The council also expressed happiness with the news of the resuscitation of the Port Harcourt Petro-Chemical refinery.

They commended Ekiti state governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, for taking steps for the commencement of an outer ring road to improve the transportation network of Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
