Edo: Police arrest medical doctor for ‘murder’

Operatives of Edo State police command have arrested a 36-year-old medical doctor, Dr. Abass Adebowale Adeyemi, over alleged murder of one Emmanuel Yobo Agbovinuere.

The State Police spokesman, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, who paraded the suspect before newsmen disclosed that the deceased, Emmanuel Yobo Agbovinuere, 39, a cab driver met the suspect sometimes in July at a hotel in Benin.

Nwabuzor said the suspect has always engaged the services of Agbovinuere who residence in Benin City, Edo State to take him round the City whenever he visits the State.

The suspect who hails from Offa local government of Kwara state was thereafter alleged to have killed the victim on September 3, 2022 in Benin and dumped his corpse at Otofure community on the Benin-Lagos road.

The medical doctor reportedly invited the victim when he visited Benin in September during which the latter complained of leg pain.

According to the police spokesman, “the suspect who is a medical doctor promised to help him and administer a substance injection into his body and the deceased died instantly.

“To conceal the crime, the suspect kept the corpse in the deceased vehicle and later dumped the corpse in a bush in Oluku and absconded with the deceased’s vehicle”.

He further stated that the suspect was traced to Osogbo with the aid of a tracking device in the deceased vehicle where he was arrested by the police.

Nwanbuzor said a snippet, diaxipan injection, scalp vein middle and five syringe were recovered from the suspect.

On his part, the suspect said the cab driver’s death was not deliberate and pleaded with the family of the victim to forgive.
