More facts emerged Thursday over the suspected hoodlums attack on the premises of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Upper Sakponba road in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state.
The hoodlums had hijacked the ongoing peaceful anti-police brutality and abuse (#EndSARS) to unleash mayhem and extort innocent citizens.
The attackers, Wednesday, invaded the NDLEA Warehouse and seized illicit drugs – mostly cannabis and other hard drugs are kept.
The gang reportedly looted the drugs before setting the building on fire.
Blueprint gathered that the hoodlums were having a field day in the area on Wednesday – having sacked two police stations a day before.
According to a witness who craved anonymity, the hoodlums however turned their attention to the anti-narcotic agency after two failed bids to purchase cannabis in the locality.
“They (hoodlums) sent a subordinate to buy them the item (indian helm), but could not find it as the sellers had exhausted the item.
“While the subordinate was still explaining the sales points he visited, one of them pointed to the direction of NDLEA office which is a few meters away and began to chant war songs towards the facility.
“Others immediately marched along with him; wielding various weapons”.
The attack on NDLEA facility came amidst the 24-hour curfew imposed by the State government to quell the activities of hoodlums.
The hoodlums reportedly stormed the office at about 6.30Pm and overpowered personnel on duty.
