Edo governorship election: Obi, Akpata visit Benin monarch, seek blessings 

The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, has said the nation can only be great if there is free, fair and credible election.

Obi expressed the view on Saturday when he led the Edo state governorship candidate of LP, Barr. Olumide Akpata, on a courtesy call on the Oba of Benin, HRM. Ewuare II.

The former presidential candidate who during visit, sought for royal blessings for the party and its candidate ahead of the election and thanked the Oba for his fatherly role.

He added: “With the prayers of the Oba, the party can make a head way as it begins its political campaigns ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.”

Earlier, Obi was received at the LP state secretariat before embarking on a road walk through major parts of the Benin metropolis amidst fan fair by the party faithful and residents.

On his part, the LP candidate, Akpata said he was at the palace with the party’s national leadership to inform the royal father that he is commencing his political campaigns and seek for blessings.

According to him, “I believe that your Royal Majesty’s prayers will go a long way as I embark on this mission of rescuing the state.

“Labour Party is strong and vibrant to wrestle power and deliver the dividends of democracy to the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.”

The traditional ruler who welcomed the delegation to his palace wished them well as they take their political campaigns through the length and breadth of the state.
