There was pandemonium on Wednesday at Egor local government secretariat after angry workers reportedly descended on the council’s  Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Eseigbe Johnbull, and treasurer in protest over their 17 months’ unpaid salaries.
The workers were said to have beaten the duo and other top management staff before chasing them away from the secretariat.

It was gathered that the aggrieved workers had barred the duo and other top management staff from gaining entrance to their offices in protestation of salary backlogs.
However, the witnesses told Blueprint that trouble started when the management staff attempted to forcefully gain entrance during which they were manhandled by the rampaging workers.

As at the time of filing in this report yesterday, it was learnt that the HoS and others had temporary relocated to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs where they were now taking refuge.
Secretary of the local government workers’ union, Mr. Humphrey Aighobahi, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, but disassociated the union from the act.
“All I can tell you is that the incident is between the council staff and management and not the union,” he said.
