Ebonyi state university gets new Vice Chancellor

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State Sunday approved the appointment of Prof Michael Ugota Awoke as Vice Chancellor (VC) of the State University (EBSU).

Prof Awoke who had served as the deputy vice chancellor of the institution during the tenure of Prof. Fidelis Ogah would be taking over the VC position from Prof. Chigozie Ogbu.

Awokes appointment was made known to journalists in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor.

Uzor who noted that Awoke’s appointment amongst others, followed the recommendations of the Governing Council of the University, further stated that governor Nwifuru announced it during a church service on Sunday.

“Awoke is a Professor of Agricultural Economics and former Vice Chancellor Academic of the State University.

“Also appointed are Prof. Ike Elechi Ogba as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, and Prof. Michael Ajanwachukwu as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration.

“Others are Mrs Ugochinyere Mba Uka, Registrar; Mrs Roseline Nwuzor, Bursar and Mrs Victoria Nwalli, Librarian.

“The governor who announced the appointments shortly after a church service at the Government House Chapel, said the newly appointed principal officers will be sworn- in on Tuesday 11th February, 2025,” he said.

Uzor also said the governor recalled the executive council members that were on suspension.

“The governor also recalled four commissioners and the Executive Secretary of the State Primary HealthCare Development Agency who were suspended last November.

“They are Commissioners for Health Dr. Moses Ekuma; Water Resources, Hon. Chinedum Nkah; Housing, Engr. Francis Orie and Local Government, Hon Uchenna Igwe.

“On the recent Killings at Amegu Nkalaha Community the Governor disclosed that the preliminary investigation by Security Agencies showed the dastard act was perpetrated by some criminal elements from the community and not herdsmen as alleged earlier, describing it as unfortunate.

“He warned contractors handling Government projects to ensure speedy execution or face the wrath of the Government,” the statement said.
