Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has assured that he and his teammates are determined to step up their games for Nigeria to qualify for the Morocco 2015 Africa Nations Cup, adding that claiming the maxim twelve points from their next four matches is a task that must be accomplished.
Nigeria is presently third in Group A with a point after they lost 3-2 at home to Congo and held hosts South Africa to a goalless draw last month, and anything short of winning the remaining matches in this qualifying series may see the country missing the continent football fiesta as she did in 2012.
Congo lead the standings with six points, while South Africa are second with four points.
The England-based Omerou whiles speaking after Eagles training session at the National Stadium Abuja yesterday said all the players are poised not to drop any point again and are working hard to ensure they pick their first three points in Sudan on Saturday.
“We are aware of the task ahead and so we have resolved to work hard to pick the available 12 points in our remaining qualifiers,” he said.
“You can see the response of the boys in the first day of training, it speaks loud of our intention ahead of the games. All we just ask of Nigerians is their support and confidence in the team.
“We know there are no minnows anymore in African football, but this time we are determined to win.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine-based winger Babatunde Michael was the only Eagles star who did not train with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.
Babatunde appears to be nursing a thigh injury, but it does not seem very serious for him to still report to training camp for the AFCON qualifiers against Sudan.
The left winger also suffered a right wrist injury which required surgery at the World Cup in Brazil and it was believed that was what stopped him from quitting Volyn FC in the summer.
The team officials told Blueprint Sport that the the squad will also train twice on today before departing for Sudan tomorrow.
The Super Eagles tackle Sudan on Saturday in continuation of the qualifying tournament before they host the same team in a reverse clash on Wednesday, October 15.
Their other qualifiers are away to Congo in Pointe-Noire and a final group game against South Africa all in November.
