Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) at the weekend directed all its members nationwide to go back to work and continue providing services to patients.
According to a statement by MDCAN President, Dr Steven Oluwole, and Secretary General, Dr A.A Adeosun, the decision to attend to patients was reached at an emergency meeting of the association in Ilorin on Saturday (July 5).
The association in the statement said it reviewed the state of health care delivery in the country and affirmed its support for all the ideals of the Nigerian Medical Association geared towards improvement of services at all tiers of health care, assuring all patients and Nigerians of the commitment of MDCAN to uninterrupted and high quality health care services.

It said: “Branches of the MDCAN and individual consultants should continue to provide services to patients, but should exercise their professional judgement as to the best care feasible and practicable in the current situation.”
While assuring all patients and Nigerians of MCDAN commitment to uninterrupted and high quality health care services, the association pleads with the Federal government “to do all that is necessary to bring a quick  end to the current impasse.”

“The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) met in Ilorin, Kwara State of Nigeria on Saturday July 5, 2014, to review the state of health care delivery in the country. The Association affirms its full support for all the ideals of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) geared towards improvement of services at all tiers of health care. We note, without reservations, the unnecessary rivalry that has thrown the health sector into endless cycles of strikes and threat of strikes.”
