Delta monarch Okonjo II lays foundation for Mother & Child Clinic

The traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku kingdom in Delta state, His Royal Majesty Obi (Dr.) Ifechukwude Okonjo II has performed the ground-breaking ceremony for a new Mother and Child Clinic at the General Hospital, Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha local government area of the state.

The project, initiated and funded by the monarch, aims to address critical healthcare needs of pregnant women, new mothers, and newborns in Ogwashi-Uku and surrounding communities.

The clinic will feature general maternity wards, private delivery rooms, incubator suites for neonatal care and a fully equipped pharmacy.

The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The Obi commended the state government for its efficient healthcare system, including the health insurance scheme and free healthcare services. 

According to Obi Okonjo 11, the mother and child clinic on completion will significantly  assist in reducing the burden on urban hospitals and enhance the overall standard of maternal and child healthcare delivery in Ogwashi Uku and Aniocha South council area in particular and the state in general.

Earlier in his address, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Lawrence Afinota, described the project as unprecedented, saying it was the first time he had witnessed a traditional ruler using personal resources to deliver such a vital healthcare initiative.

The Omu of Ogwashi-Uku, Edith Rafua, who led women  to the , commended the initiative of the monarch.
