General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has cautioned members against subtle agitations over his succession, stressing that no one has the authority to push him out of office.
Speaking during a Bible study programme—later shared online—the 83-year-old leader challenged any attempts to influence the timing of his exit. The statement was contained in an August 7 report by Church Times Nigeria.
“Are you tired of me?” Kumuyi asked the congregation, receiving a loud “No” in response.
He expressed concern over remarks from a young preacher in the church who had repeatedly said, “There is no leadership without a successor.”
Citing biblical examples, Kumuyi insisted that leadership appointment is God’s prerogative, warning members not to attempt to control or pressure him.
“I reject any member of the church, whether worker, choir, or security, who tries to control me. I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home… nobody will put me under pressure,” he said.
Kumuyi noted that while he has given many gifted ministers the platform to preach, the choice of his successor remains “in the hands of God.”
He acknowledged that leadership transition is inevitable but maintained it will happen only at God’s appointed time.
“When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart. Don’t try to drive me away, even though I know you cannot,” he added.
