The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, has been named the Madakin Fune, a prestigious traditional title in the Emirate Council.
A statement by Nuru Shehu Jos, his personal assistant, said Fune Emirate Council in Yobe state, under the leadership of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Saleh Idriss Ibn Usman, Mai Fune, after due consultation and careful deliberation by all eminent members of the Emirate in Council, took the decision.
Justifying the conferment on Ambassador Damagum’s the emirate said he has demonstrated patriotism, dedication, honesty, and strong commitment to leadership and service, which necessitated his appointment.
Ambassador Damagum, who this medium learnt generously built and donated a Conference Hall to the Emirate, expressed his gratitude to Almighty Allah and his deep appreciation to the Emirate Council, led by Alhaji Dr. Saleh Idriss Ibn Usman, Mai Fune.
He pledged his continued support and loyalty to the Fune Emirate.
Under the appointment, Ambassador Damagum becomes the Madaki Fune, making him one of the Kingmakers of the Fune Emirate.
In his letter of appointment, His Royal Highness, Mai Fune, underscored the significance of the traditional mandate bestowed upon Ambassador Damagum:
“It is my fervent wish that you will protect and promote the culture and customs of this Emirate by accepting this appointment in writing. The turbaning ceremony will be arranged and conducted in due course, please,” he said.
Ambassador Damagum, greatly honoured by this recognition, conveyed his heartfelt thanks, joy, and appreciation to the Fune Emirate Council and the good people of Fune.
